My Healing Story…the Short Version
I was in the executive suite of a large federal agency when I got a wake up call…literally. I began to study all forms of creating wellness as I began to make day by day, month by month changes in my way of life. And I can gratefully say that I feel fabulous, usually a 9 or 10 on the 10 point scale, whereas nearly twenty years ago I was exhausted, stressed, shaky, dizzy, a bit depressed and had a number of allergies and digestive problems! You see, I had thought that all I had to do to be healthy was exercise! And without questioning, follow the doctors’ orders. I had not a clue, as they say, about creating health…having just taken it for granted and ignoring symptoms. Sound familiar?
So what did I do? Intuitively, I knew I had to eat differently and began to shop at an organic foods market. On the second visit, a stranger came up to me and said that he felt better than he ever had in his life and that he went to a doctor who practiced alternative medicine. I had no idea then what was alternative medicine, but I know now that “when the student is ready, the teacher appears.” And over time, I experimented with a variety of alternative practices, as I stayed away from conventional medicine that had not worked for me. I came to know that the way to heal was for me to do the work. In addition to the significant changes in my food choices, I got the mercury amalgams out. Introduced to inspirational tapes and books, I realized some of that negative thinking had to go; yoga and meditation became integrated into my daily rituals! Did this all happen in a few months? No. With commitment, each day just got better and better, and continues to get better and better as I continue to learn and practice what supports me. I learned to be response-able for my life style choices, as I came to understand there would be times when conventional medicine was needed and other moments when alternative practices were called for. Mostly, my keys to a fabulous life are my daily choices so that I rarely need to seek “outside” support.
My knowledge and passion for wellness took me to a self-created position at the National Institutes of Health Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine, and then to yoga teacher training. In 2005 I completed studies at the Stillpoint School of Advanced Energy Healing and Manhattan’s progressive Institute for Integrative Nutrition. How can I not take all that I have learned, my twenty years of study, and my passion, to guide and inspire others to create Health…for Life.
